Country Comedy Tour

Bring the whole family out to the Sautee Nacoochee Historic Gym on October 16, 2010 for the family friendly Country Comedy Tour. This comedy show features the clean comedy of MG Gaskin and Matt Mitchell better known as “Casio Kid”. These 2 southern boys can really engage a crowd with their quick wit and ability to interact and draw the audiences into their show.
Doors open at 7 PM with the show starting at 8 PM. Tickets are $22 for non members, $16 for SNCA members, $8 for children ages 6 – 17. For more information, details, and reservations, call 706-878-3300.

Lilies of the Valley

Eight women have come together to perform in perfect harmony under the name Lilies of the Valley. They will be in concert at the Sautee Nacoochee Community Association Center Theater on October 8, 2010 at 8 PM. The eight women are: Lisa Deaton, Anne Greene, Courtney Johnston, Lisa Mount, Rebecca and Joanne Steele, Dede Vogt, and Debbielee Whelchel. Each woman brings her own unique musical talent to the group making the overall combination an exciting and fresh sound. You will hear everything from bluegrass and gospel to contemporary folk rock and blues.
Tickets can be purchased for $22 for non members, $16 for SNCA members, $8 for children ages 6 – 17. Get your tickets soon as there are only 100 available and they will go fast!

Fall Celebration

As the leaves change and the weather becomes cooler, what better way to celebrate the season than spending a day at Smithgall Woods Conservation Park? On October 9, 2010 from 12 Noon to 4 PM Smithgall Woods will be hosting a Fall celebration with mountain music, craft vendors, hands-on pioneer skill exhibits, and apple cider. You can even enjoy a hayride through the park. There is a $5 parking fee with $1 of it going to benefit Friends of Smithgall Woods. Contact 706-878-3087 for more information.
Smithgall Woods Conservation Park, one of Georgia’s State Parks, is a quiet mountain retreat with beautifully decorated cottages and picnic shelters that is perfect for romantic getaways as well as outings with family and friends. It has 5 miles of trails and 18 miles of roads for those who enjoy hiking and biking. Dukes Creek, a premier trout stream, runs through the property and is well known for its catch and release trout fishing.

Oktoberfest 2010

Alpine Helen, Georgia is getting geared up for the 40th annual Oktoberfest running from September 9, 2010 to October 31, 2010. Put on your lederhosen and your dancing shoes and get ready to polka! The Helen Festhalle houses the event every year with German style bands, brats, and beer! You won’t want to miss this festive celebration that brings a touch of Bavaria to the North Georgia Mountains. The Oktoberfest Parade gets the party rolling on September 11, 2010 at 12 Noon in downtown Helen followed by the “Tapping of the Keg” at the Helen Festhalle.
