Christmas in Helen

December 4, 2010 is a great day to travel to Helen, Georgia for many Christmas events that will be happening in the area throughout the day. Join in the 4th annual Holiday Treasure Hunt along scenic Highway 197 in Clarksville, stop by The Gourd Place in nearby Sautee for their open house,visit downtown Helen to see the wonderful items available for purchase at the Christkindlmarkt set up in the Marktplatz and stick around downtown Helen for the annual Christmas parade at 2 PM. After the parade, you can Deck the Halls at Unicoi State Park. It is sure to be a fun filled day which will really get you in the Christmas spirit!
Join in the 4th annual Holiday Treasure Hunt by following the treasure map to businesses along Scenic Highway 197. There will be music and refreshments and a party will begin at the Batesville Country Store and Restaurant at 5 PM. Enter a drawing for some nice prizes.
The Gourd Place is celebrating 2010 with their theme All About Trains. The open house is from 10 AM to 5 PM and will feature their 2010 special edition ornaments. They will be open daily sharing their special holiday theme through December 23, 2010. They are located at: 2319 Duncan Bridge Road, Sautee, GA. Call 706-865-4048 for more information.
The Christkindlmarkt is a traditional German marketplace where you can find many unique gifts, decorations, and tasty treats!
Continue the fun at Unicoi State Park with their festivities of making holiday crafts, going on a hayride, having a special meal in the park’s restaurant, and enjoying the music in the beautifully decorated lodge. This event is on Saturday, December 4 and Sunday, December 5, 2010 from 3 PM to 6 PM. Parking is $5.

SNCA Yuletide Festival

Join the Sautee Nacoochee Community Association in celebrating the Christmas season with a holiday dinner and dessert in the Community Hall on December 3, 2010 beginning at 5:30 PM. Enjoy a tasty meal and time with friends and help White County DFACS give needy children a nice Christmas. Bring along a plate of cookies for everyone to share. Santa Claus will be stopping by to say hello. Contact SNCA at 706-878-3300 for more information and details for this event.
Dinner is $5 for adults, $3 for children under 12. All net proceeds will go to White County DFACS.

Mansion of Terror Haunted House

If visiting haunted mansions is something on your to do list for Halloween, you won’t want to miss the Mansion of Terror Haunted House in downtown Cleveland at the Historic Telford-Kennimer House. The house will be open October 22 – 23 and 28 – 30, 2010. You can park on the west side of the square then up the hill one block. Fall Celebration

As the leaves change and the weather becomes cooler, what better way to celebrate the season than spending a day at Smithgall Woods Conservation Park? On October 9, 2010 from 12 Noon to 4 PM Smithgall Woods will be hosting a Fall celebration with mountain music, craft vendors, hands-on pioneer skill exhibits, and apple cider. You can even enjoy a hayride through the park. There is a $5 parking fee with $1 of it going to benefit Friends of Smithgall Woods. Contact 706-878-3087 for more information.
Smithgall Woods Conservation Park, one of Georgia’s State Parks, is a quiet mountain retreat with beautifully decorated cottages and picnic shelters that is perfect for romantic getaways as well as outings with family and friends. It has 5 miles of trails and 18 miles of roads for those who enjoy hiking and biking. Dukes Creek, a premier trout stream, runs through the property and is well known for its catch and release trout fishing.

Oktoberfest 2010

Alpine Helen, Georgia is getting geared up for the 40th annual Oktoberfest running from September 9, 2010 to October 31, 2010. Put on your lederhosen and your dancing shoes and get ready to polka! The Helen Festhalle houses the event every year with German style bands, brats, and beer! You won’t want to miss this festive celebration that brings a touch of Bavaria to the North Georgia Mountains. The Oktoberfest Parade gets the party rolling on September 11, 2010 at 12 Noon in downtown Helen followed by the “Tapping of the Keg” at the Helen Festhalle.
