			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Botanist Jim Sullivan will be at the Smithgall Woods State Park in Helen, Georgia on <strong>February 11, 2012</strong> from 12 Noon to 4 PM. He will be discussing and demonstrating how to identify plants in the winter. Along with this study, he will report on the progress of the Eastern Hemlock trees after the treatment of Hemlock Woolly Adelgid, a serious pest of the Hemlocks in the eastern United States. The Winter Botany study will also include a short hike to identify flora in the area.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Get geared up for the 33rd Annual Hogpen Hill Climb in Helen, Georgia on <strong>January 21, 2012</strong>. This Run and See Georgia Grand Prix event starts at Unicoi State Park in Helen, Georgia with the Piglet Run, a 5K run at 10 AM and the Hogpen Hill Climb, a 17K run at 12 Noon. The Hogpen Hill Climb is said to be one of the toughest races in North America with over 2500 feet of climbing over the 17K course.</p>
<p>Awards for the overall male and female of each race plus the top 3 finishers of each age group will be given at the post race award ceremony at 4:30 PM at the Unicoi Lodge. All participants will receive a long sleeve shirt.</p>
<p>Registration fees for the Piglet Run are: early &#8211; $25, regular &#8211; $30, student &#8211; $20.<br />
Registration fees for the Hogpen Hill Climb are: early &#8211; $30, regular &#8211; $40, student &#8211; $20.<br />
Early registration ends on January 13, 2012.</p>
<p>Check in and registration begin at 8 AM at the Unicoi State Park Lodge.</p>

This fashion show will be held at Bernies Restaurant and Nacoochee Valley Guest House from 12 Noon to 1:30 PM. See needlework and jewelry from artists all around Atlanta, Georgia as well as the Northeast Georgia mountains.</p>
<p>Admission is $24 per person and lunch will be provided by Bernie&#8217;s. The luncheon and show will begin at 12:30 PM.</p>
<p>The menu for lunch is as follows:</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Sautee Nacoochee Center in Sautee Nacoochee, Georgia is hosting the 6th annual Sautee Jamboree on <strong>September 23 and 24, 2011</strong>. This 2 day music festival will feature many bands with diverse talents, some making their debut and some who are back for repeat performances. Headlining the event will be Wet Willie who is most famous for their song &#8220;Keep on Smilin&#8217;&#8221;, a hit that reached #10 on the Billboard charts in 1974.</p>

<p>Free parking for the event will be limited, however, there will be plenty of parking around the site for $5 per car.</p>
<p>Bring blankets and lawn chairs for the show. There will be plenty of food and drink available for sale. No coolers will be allowed inside the venue.</p>
<p>Tickets are $46 per person, $40 per person for SNCA members. The box office opens at 5 PM on Friday, September 23 and again Saturday morning, September 24 at 10 AM. For more information, call 706-878-3300.</p>

Begin the celebration of the good ol&#8217; days on Friday evening at 8 PM with live Appalachian Mountain music. There will be mountain crafts like butter churning and candle dipping along with family games of egg tosses and sack races. Saturday evening brings an old fashioned square dance to conclude the celebration. </p>

A presentation on cultural influences that led up to the &#8220;Gold Rush&#8221; in Georgia in 1828 will begin the day. There will be a hike on Martin Mine Trail to educate you on the effects gold mining left on the land. Local historians will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.</p>

The annual fireworks display in Helen, Georgia will be held behind the Alpine Village Shoppes and the Helen Welcome Center at dusk (approximately between 9 PM and 9:30 PM) on <strong>July 4, 2011</strong>.</p>
<p>The whole weekend will offer entertainment. Unicoi State Park is having July 4th, Mountain Style on <strong>July 2 &#8211; 4, 2011</strong> with fun for the whole family. Enjoy music, a hoedown, watermelon eatin&#8217; and seed spitting contests, and sack races. Several artists and crafts people from around Georgia will be at the park demonstrating their skills. <p>You can always come to Helen, GA early in the day on the 4th and enjoy walking around and visiting the shops and art exhibits in town. Grab some barbecue at the Helen Festhalle from 4 PM to 9 PM, listen to some music and get settled in to watch the fireworks show! It is going to be a very festive Independence Day weekend!</p>

		<description><![CDATA[May 28, 2011 is a busy day at the Sautee Nacoochee Community Association (SNCA) in Sautee Nacoochee, Georgia with a folk pottery demonstration, an artists' reception, a BBQ fundraiser, and a Contra Dance.]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Saturday, <strong>May 28, 2011</strong> is going to be a busy day at the Sautee Nacoochee Community Association (SNCA) in Sautee Nacoochee, Georgia.</p>
<p>The Folk Pottery Museum will be having a Folk Pottery Demonstration from 10 AM to 2 PM. Come on out to see how folk pottery is created.</p>
<p>The Center Gallery will be hosting an artists&#8217; reception from 6:30 PM to 8 PM for &#8220;The Art of Wood&#8221; art exhibit that will be on display from May 27 through July 10. You will get a chance to meet the artists whose work will be part of the exhibit. All works on display in the exhibit will be available for purchase.</p>
<p>Sautee Nacoochee Volunteer Fire Department is holding their 22nd annual Pig Out Barbecue from 12 PM to 5 PM. Stop by for some tasty barbecue. All proceeds will go towards building the fire station&#8217;s technical rescue training tower and improvements to the fire station.</p>
<p>From 6:30 PM to 11 PM is the Community Contra Dance in the Historic Gym. There will be a pot luck dinner beginning at 6:30 PM. If you wish to take part, bring a dish to share. A short contra dance lesson will begin at 7:30 PM for those who want to learn. The dance will begin at 8 PM. Tickets are $7 for SNCA members, $8 for non-members, and $4 for students.</p>
